5 Aug 11

The Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail (GRHCRT) draft Management Plan is now available for public comment and we'd like to hear your feedback.

During their July council meetings, Mitchell, Murrindindi and Mansfield Shire Councils all approved the draft plan be circulated and feedback sought from the community and stakeholders.

The GRHCRT draft Management Plan provides guidelines for the management of the Rail Trail to help facilitate a safe and enjoyable user experience as well as the protection and enhancement of environmental assets and ensure consistent management of the trail through the three municipalities.

The plan addresses a comprehensive range of topics which will enable the Rail Trail to be managed and promoted consistently across the three Shires including:
■ Governance
■ Environment and cultural heritage
■ Assets maintenance
■ Emergency management
■ Risks
■ Tourism and marketing

The draft plan can be viewed and downloaded from Council's website -www.mansfield.vic.gov.au. Hard copies can also be obtained from the council offices.

Consultation meetings will be held in the next few weeks with all members of the community invited to come along and have your say:

If you are unable to attend any of the meetings you can provide your feedback via email to: rdc.office@regionaldevelopment.com.au
After the consultation period closes on 29 August, the plan will be updated before final approval is sought at each Councils September meeting. The Rail Trail is on track for completion by December 2011.
