Description
Depression can be the result of a wide range of factors. While rates of depression are not necessarily higher in rural areas compared to metropolitan areas, social isolation, lack of services and environmental factors - such as the current drought - may put some people at greater risk.
It's important that people know about depression:
- signs and symptoms
- behaviour that may indicate someone is depressed
- how to help yourself, a family member or someone in your community if you are concerned.
In response to the tough times country people are experiencing, beyondblue,is working with a range of government and non-government agencies to launch a special National Drought Campaign. The Don't beat about the bush! Campaign aims to increase awareness of depression, show people where they can get help and provide mental health support for communities.
